The Piazza San Pietro is an impressive city square located in Vatican City, Rome. It was designed by the renowned Baroque artist, Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1656 and features a remarkable granite fountain constructed by him in 1675 alongside a large ancient Egyptian obelisk that was relocated to the piazza from Alexandria in 1586. This massive open space gives visitors a breathtaking view of one of the grandest basilicas in the world - St. Peter's Basilica. Its vast oval shape consists of colossal Doric colonnades stretching four columns deep and MAS the Barberini Gardens rising tall. It also serves as a giant sundial when the sun passes through the zodiacal stones marking the tip of the obelisk’s shadow at noon. Truly magnificent!
