The Skippers Road, a historic and off the beaten track road near Queenstown, winds its way through rugged terrain, offering adventurers a journey through both stunning landscapes and rich gold rush history. Carved into the sheer cliffs of the Shotover River Canyon, this narrow and winding road presents a thrilling drive with hairpin turns and awe-inspiring vistas at every bend. For photographers, the road itself is a subject of intrigue, offering spectacular views of the dramatic gorge and mountain ranges.
One of the highlights along Skippers Road is Skippers Crag, a dramatic rock formation that overlooks the gorge. It's a perfect vantage point and subject for epic photo capturing the raw beauty of the Skippers Canyon.
We visited this location at sunset and although it was moody I think it would be a great location at golden hour. Take your wide angle and zoom lens with you for this location.
Warning: The Skippers Road is considered one of the most dangerous in New Zealand as it is very narrow, unsealed and has sheer drop offs. Only drive down here in a 4wd and if you are confident driver.
