Birdlings Flat Beach, located in Canterbury, New Zealand, is a popular spot known for its unique pebble beach where you can find small agates and other cool rounded stones. It's not the best place for swimming or surfing due to strong currents, but it's a great spot for beachcombing. Plus, you might even spot some Hector's dolphins or fur seals hanging out nearby.

Another special thing about this beach is it points south and is an amazing location to see and capture the Aurora Australis when a solar storm has been created by the sun. If you happen to be in Christchurch or the Canterbury area when an Aurora hits then this is a great place to do! Beware it will be busy as it is well known for Aurora viewing, but this is a huge beach and there is space for everyone.

There is a carpark but if that is full then you can park on the side of the road.

Photo tip: shoot on your wide angle lens (16-35mm or similar) and although every Aurora is different, settings similar to ISO800-1600, F2.8-F4, 4-8 seconds is a good place to start.
