Koltur is a small island, known for its picturesque landscapes and historic settlements. The name "Koltur" means "colt," reflecting its contrast with the neighboring island of Hestur, which means "horse." With just one settlement and two mountains, Koltur has a rich history dating back to Viking times, where barley was cultivated and sheep were raised. Today, the island is a haven for seabirds, including European storm petrels and Atlantic puffins. Despite its remote location, Koltur offers a unique glimpse into Faroese culture and nature.
