There are 2 ways to get to this amazing lake which has the shape of a heart. My opinion the longer way is easier. So you drive to the village of Sørvagur (Closest village from the airport). Once you get there you have to take the first road on the right and drive straight until you see the big round concrete circles. Keep on driving up the off road until you can’t drive anymore. There is a gate, open it and walk across the water reservoir and hike straight up the hill, follow the gorge up and just keep on walking up. The first part is the most difficult, once you get to the top keep on walking straight to the next peak. Once you reach the second peak you should see the heart shaped lake Vatndalsvatn.

Tip - before you start, if while driving to the village you’ll see low clouds don’t bother trying the hike because you will be disappointed.

The second way is to drive like you are going to the village of Bøur. About half way there is a big waterfall (the water comes from the heart shaped lake) close to the road. There is also a parking lot. Park the car, cross the street and there should be a way up. Start hiking and follow the river. Once you arrive at the next small waterfall you have just a little bit left to get next to the lake. Once you arrive next to the lake you will not see the heart shape, you need to go around the lake and keep on hiking up. This is much harder and probably it will take you longer to get up to the peak. But I just wanted to let you know that you have two options.
