The Viiankiaapa Mire Protection Area is located north of Sodankylä. Viiankiaapa is a vast wetland area covering a total area of over 65 square kilometers.

Viiankiaava swamp has two nature trails. However, I recommend the longer nature trail near the village of Kersilö and in the northern part of Viiankiaapa. Trail is an approx. 4.3 kilometer circular trail. The pictures are from this nature trail.

This place is great for birding and walking. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

In the middle of the nature trail, there is also a fire place and a wooden toilet on the shore of the lake.

In summer, you should bring covering clothes and mosquito repellent.
