Loketon onkalo is a fascinating geological feature located near Pistohiekka beach in Puumala. This gorge is an easy "drive-by" excursion destination, because it is only 500m from the parking lot and therefore accessible easily. (We stopped to visit here while passing by on our way to Pistohiekka beach in our summer dresses.)

This 10-13 meter deep and 70 meter long rock gorge was carved out by the melting waters of the continental ice sheet. Inside the gorge, you’ll find a lush environment where moss, ferns, and even trees thrive.

The path to Loketon onkalo starts from the parking lot at Honkajoentie 510 (at the southern end of Saarijärvi lake).

As you follow the guided route, you’ll reach the bottom of the gorge. From there, you can climb up a ladder at the other end. Afterward, you’ll ascend to the resting place above the gorge, and the route eventually leads back to the path you took to enter the gorge.

Remember to bring mosquito repellent for a pleasant experience! 😊
