Walk along a narrow steel pathway bolted to the rock face of the Grindelwald First mountain peak. You'll cross a suspension bridge and walk out on a glass floored viewing platform 45 m (148 ft) above the ground.
The entire time, you'll have spectacular views of the Eiger and other peaks around the Jungfrau Region. You'll feel like you're standing on top of the world!
Open: The First gondola and cliff walk are open mid Dec thru late October. They are closed from last week of October through mid December.
From Grindelwald, you ride a gondola about 30 min ride up to the First mountain. You pay a fee to ride the gondola, but it does not cost extra to visit the cliff walk. Book Grindelwald First gondola tickets here
Location: Grindelwald First Gondola - Dorfstrasse 187, 3818 Grindelwald, 10 mins walk from Grindelwald train station (not Grindelwald Terminal).
Exit the gondola station to your right and follow signs to the First Cliff Walk. You will walk on a dirt path for a couple minutes until you see the entrance to the cliff walk on your left. You want through a little gate and onto the metal pathway. It has a high barriers on both sides, perfectly safe for children.
The walk lasts about 15 mins, ending at the First restaurant, which has a lovely outdoor panorama terrace, a nice place for a coffee and snack or lunch.
The gondola and cliff walk are open mostly year round. In October, this area is a good options when other mountains in this area are closed.
The cliff walk is a short activity, so we usually include other activities as part of this outing. In fall, there may be snow that closes some of these activities.
Until about late October, you can add on a hike to the Bachalpsee lake. For adventure seekers, you can add on the epic zip lines, mountain go carts and/or kick scooters.
With little kids, ride the gondola down to the Bort middle station, where you'll find a fun playground with an amazing view. For a mellow day, grab a lounge chair at the First restaurant and enjoy the view with some refreshments.
