Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a spectacular Theravada Buddhist temple (wat) located in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. It is a sacred site to many Thai people and is known as one of the most holy pilgrimage spots in Thailand due to its relic and symbolic importance to the Lanna Kingdom back in the 14th century. The journey up to the temple is an experience like no other, with pilgrims climbing the 309 steps or taking a tram towards the pagodas and countless ornate shrines within the temple grounds. Everywhere you look, there is something awe-inspiring and beautiful – from the model of the Emerald Buddha and the statue of the Hindu God Ganesh, to the Naga lined steps and the utterly breathtaking views of downtown Chiang Mai on the far side of the temple. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is truly a place of wonder and a must-see for anyone visiting this part of Thailand.
