Copenhagen is famous for being a "cycling city," but it really depends...
Copenhagen is famous for being a "cycling city," so a lot of tourists understandably want to experience the city like the locals--by bike! And you totally can. Copenhagen is a relatively small and flat city, with wide bike lanes almost everywhere, so it is a safe and convenient way to get around. I would consider a couple of things before you rent a bike though:
Are you actually comfortable riding a bike? Most likely, if you've ever learned how to ride a bike, you can pick it back up, even if it's been many years. However, Copenhageners have very little patience for people that slow down bike traffic, especially at rush hour. If you aren't really confident on a bike, don't feel like you have to use one while you're here.
Public transportation is also very convenient! The metro and city buses will get you almost anywhere you could want to go while you're here. They are generally clean and reliable. The metros run all night. Personally, I'm a public transit gal. It is totally fine to use public transit instead of a bike (or a mix of both) while you're here! And if you're traveling with kids, I would really suggest going the public transit route.
If you do decide to rent a bike, Donkey Republic is definitely the most popular service to do so. And please, please, please, make sure you learn the bike rules and hand signals before you hit the road!!
