Española or Espanola Island is the most southerly of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, located about 10 to 12 hours from Santa Cruz. Nicknamed “Little Spain” for its discovery by Christopher Columbus at his first voyage, this remarkable island contains a host of breathtaking views and wildlife that make it an unforgettable experience. From March to January, visitors can witness the “Matedance" of blue-footed boobies on the island’s large bays, while almost the entire waved albatross population calls Española home. Not only that, but the Hood mockingbird, the Española lava lizard, and the "Christmas" marine iguana all call this rich landscape home. Whether you have a passion for bird watching or just want to bask in paradise, Española Island has something for everyone.
