Tortuga Bay, located on the south side of Santa Cruz Island, is a stunning beach for visitors to explore. With its long stretch of white sand, Tortuga Bay offers activities such as swimming, snorkelling, birdwatching, kayak-rentals, sunbathing and more. Wildife at Tortuga Bay includes sea turtles, marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot Crabs, brown pelicans, flamingos and blue-footed boobies. Visitors should note that swimming is forbidden from the main beach due to strong currents but can be done safely at the Playa Mansa, around the corner. Tortuga Bay is open between 6am and 6pm, and is accessible by cruise, water taxi from Puerto Ayora, or through a leisurely one-hour walk. Tortuga Bay is also a famous surfing spot on the island.
