Spectacular waterfall with a hike

Háifoss is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Located above Þjórsárdalur valley. It really does look like something from a dream and makes a great detour on a road trip around the Golden Circle or during the drive out to Landmannalaugar. The waterfall is 122 meters tall and is formed by the river Fossá as it splits into two tributaries, forming Háifoss and the neighboring Granni waterfall. If you have the time, I definitely recommend a hike into the canyon for a little adventure. It will take around 1-2 hours but the views from down there are incredible. The most tricky part is the drive to the waterfall, the road isn't always in the best shape so drive slowly.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An epic waterfall in the highlands of Iceland.

  • Best season: All but winter and early spring. It is amazing during winter but it can be a hassle to get up there.

  • Best time of day: Whenever you can but early sunset and late sunrise are always incredible up there.

  • Nice to know: You can hike down into the canyon for a little adventure and a different view.
