Ásbyrgi is a magnificent canyon located in northeastern Iceland. It is home to enchanting features such as its 100 metre (328 feet) high cliff faces and rich woodland filled with birch, willow, spruce, larch, and pine. According to Icelandic folklore, Ásbyrgi was created by Odin's eight-legged steed, hence it's horse shoe shape. There are many options for hiking in the area so make sure you check the information center to see if you find any that suit you.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: An iconic canyon on northeastern Iceland.
Best season: Fall (insane colours).
Best time of day: Any.
Nice to know: There is a pretty pond at the bottom of the canyon. There are many marked hiking trails and I recommend the one going to the top of the rock in the middle of the canyon. If you have time, it's also fun to hike along the top of the canyon. Check the information center for the hiking trails.
