Message from João Petersen

Hakgala Botanic Gardens, nestled in Sri Lanka's hill country near Nuwara Eliya, were established in 1861 for Cinchona cultivation. Spread over 28 hectares, the gardens boast a subtropical climate with stunning views of the Uva Valley and surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore terraced landscapes, a central pond with water lilies, a bulb garden, rose garden, glass house, fernery, and an arboretum showcasing exotic and endemic plants. With its cool alpine atmosphere and diverse flora, Hakgala Botanic Gardens offer a delightful escape for nature lovers and plant enthusiasts alike.
