The iconic equestrian statue of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington in Glasgow is one of the city's most notable landmarks. Since the 1980s, local residents have put traffic cones on the Duke's head as an act of humour and appreciation of its place in their city. Despite opposition from local authorities, Glaswegians unite in defending their beloved statue. Residents even incorporate seasonal themes to the cone, adorning it with Olympic medals for Team GB, EU flags in support of European referendums, and face masks for wider COVID-19 pandemic solidarity to make the statue truly inclusive of all ages and interests!
