Kumamoto Castle is a badass hilltop fortress in Japan that's been around since 1467. It's got a concrete keep, but still rocks some original wooden buildings. This place is legit - it's one of the top three castles in Japan, along with Himeji and Matsumoto. The castle complex is huge, with 49 turrets, 18 turret gates, and 29 smaller gates. It even survived a siege in 1877 during the Satsuma Rebellion. Plus, it's got those cool curved stone walls to keep out intruders. And hey, it's currently getting a facelift after some earthquakes messed things up in 2016.
