Located in Kashima City, Saga prefecture, Yutoku Inari Shrine is one of Japan's three most famous shrines dedicated to Inari and is considered a must-see by locals and tourists alike. Built in 1687 by the wife of a local lord, visitors can find an 18 meter tall main hall, surrounded by a sacred wooded hill with various torii gates and smaller shrines, as well as a traditional Japanese garden with ponds, and walking trails. These unique features provide a stunning view of Kashima city and the nearby Ariake Sea, as well as two small shrine museums which showcase armor and ceremonial swords from different generations of feudal lords. Whether it’s admiring the blooming flowers in spring or exploring the path up the hill, there are many exciting activities to enjoy at Yutoku Inari Shrine.
