Stuðlagil Canyon, located in East Iceland's Glacier Valley, is a hidden gem with stunning basalt rock columns and a beautiful blue-green glacial river. The canyon was formed by the powerful force of a glacial river, which has since calmed down due to a nearby hydroelectric plant. Visitors can enjoy the unique beauty of the area, including the basalt column waterfall Studlafoss, but should be prepared for a bit of a trek to get there. *Photographer Note - The ideal time for photos will be on a cloudy or rainy day when the columns are wet and the water is more of a blue color. Also in the Fall they release some water and it causes the water to be more of murky color.
