Taking a trip to Skye is sure to be an unforgettable experience, and an essential stop along the way is the Old Man of Storr. Situated near Portree, on the Trotternish Ridge, the 55-meter-high pinnacle of basalt rock is all that remains of a 2,800-million-year-old volcanic plug. The thrilling and somewhat demanding climb up to the viewpoints offers breathtaking views, and visitors can spot the Islands of Raasay and Rona in the distance, as well as dramatic cliff faces and interesting rock formations. Parking is available at the site and visitors are advised to take suitable clothing, sturdy footwear and heed any barriers or warnings due to danger of rockfall. All this adds to make the Old Man of Storr a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Skye!
