Located in the city of Tetovo, North Macedonia, Xhamia e Larme, or the Painted Mosque, is an incredible structure full of artistic beauty and cultural value. Built in 1833 under the aegis of Abdurrahman Pasha, the mosque features a unique minaret which interrupts one of the side walls. Thirty stained glass windows, along with intricate floral and geometric patterns divide the exterior walls. Inside, you’ll find some of the most stunning monochromatic artwork including depictions of famous urban landscapes and twelve medallions with the exquisite, calligraphic names of twelve prophets. Though the ages, these decorations have made Xhamia e Larme a marvel of Ottoman baroque architecture that offers a unique historical experience for all to enjoy.
