Rebun Island is hands down my favorite island in Japan. I visited in August 2024 for a day trip, taking the morning ferry and heading back in the evening, but it left such an impression that I’m already planning a return visit. I’d recommend staying at least a night or two here to truly soak in everything it has to offer. Just a heads-up—**hotels are limited**, and prices can be steep, so be sure to book in advance, especially if you’re visiting during the peak bloom season in June and July.
The island truly shines during summer when it’s blanketed in colorful alpine flowers, creating a surreal landscape that stretches from the shorelines to the peaks. For winter travelers, Rebun transforms into a snowy wonderland, offering a completely different, equally beautiful view of the island. And no matter when you visit, the ocean views are simply incredible. The island is like a natural platform, with coastal trails that provide panoramic views of the sea from nearly every angle.
