Saurbæjarkirkja í Eyjafirði is a charming church located in the Eyjafjörður region of Iceland, about 26 kilometers south of Akureyri. Built in 1858 by Olaf Briem, this unique church features thick turf and stone walls on the outside, providing protection against the harsh weather conditions. It is one of the few remaining turf churches in Iceland, showcasing the traditional building materials used in the country until the 19th century. Inside, you'll find a wooden frame construction and no tower, with the bells typically hanging from the front gable. Today, Saurbæjarkirkja is under the care of the National Museum of Iceland, preserving its historical and cultural significance.
