To get to this one you'll have to drive around 20 minutes on a gravel road (no need for 4x4, unless it's heavy snow during winter maybe). Grettislaug ("Grettir's Pool") is a great little geothermal pool (with two separate hot tubs) right by the ocean. According to the Icelandic Sagas, Grettir was the strongest man in Iceland and used the pool to warm himself up after swimming from Drangey Island (where he was hiding as an outlaw).

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A geothermal pool in North Iceland (named after an Icelandic outlaw).

  • Best season: Summer (usually it's only open April through September).

  • Opening hours: 8am - 10pm every day of the week.

  • Nice to know: There are showers and changing rooms + a small shop to buy snacks and drinks. There's also a camping area.
