Finch Hatton Gorge, nestled in the verdant Eungella National Park about 70 km west of Mackay, Queensland, is a paradise for nature lovers. This picturesque haven has stunning waterfalls, enchanting rainforest walks, and dramatic volcanic boulder formations.

The gorge features inviting crystal-clear swimming holes, perfect for a refreshing dip in the cool, pristine waters. For the best experience, aim to visit between May and October when the weather is pleasantly cool and the waterfalls are at their most impressive.

Getting to the gorge involves navigating a road with creek crossings. I must admit, my van didn't make it through, I managed about four creek crossings before encountering one that was a bit too deep for my comfort. The creek depth is indicated on markers, so just check before you attempt to cross. A few travelers I met in Airlie Beach who visited Finch Hatton Gorge in their 2WDs had a great time, so your success really just depends on the recent rainfall.
