The Clifton Beaches are definitely Cape Town's most popular city beaches – they are easy to reach, even by public transportation, there is plenty of parking around (even though it can get difficult to find parking on nice, sunny days and during tourist season), you have street vendors selling ice cream and drinks and you can do countless activities here. During the evening, you can find fire festivals, yoga classes or silent discos here from time to time.

The beaches are framed by fancy beach villas and holiday accommodations. Thanks to their location, they are wind protected – and trust me, that's a win in Cape Town!

The beaches are interconnected but separated by boulders, creating four separate beaches. Each Clifton Beach is popular for a particular thing or activity, so let me walk you through it:

Clifton 1st Least crowded and most local one of the four I would say. Particularly popular with dog owners since it's dog-friendly and surfers. Clifton 2nd Popular with students, tourists and active beachgoers – here you'll find people spending the whole day, playing frisbee, volleyball, beach games, listening to music and chilling. Clifton 3rd Sandwiched between 2nd and 4th beach, it's often not that crowded and more peaceful but still with a merry, friendly vibe. It has always been particularly popular with the LGBTQ+ community but is of course open for everyone and a great sundowner spot. Clifton 4th The biggest and most popular one of the four. This is where people tan, play "see and be seen", yachts anker and people spend the whole day just relaxing in the water and soft sand. It also holds Blue Flag status, an international award given to beaches that are clean, safe, offer great amenities and implement environmentally conscious initiatives.

So here you go: Pick your favourite 🌊
