Kirstenbosch is really not your normal botanical garden! First of all, it's huge – 528-hectares! Second of all, many people come here for picnics and walks, to just spend the afternoon. Third of all, there are yearly summer outdoor concerts in the botanical garden – you can check here if there is one happening while you are visiting.
But of course, Kirstenbosch is also a botanical garden, meaning that you can take different educational trails and learn about the flora and fauna here. After all, you are visiting one of the seven floral kingdoms of the world - the Cape Floral Kingdom. The diversity, density and endemism of the flora here are the highest worldwide. Some 69% of the estimated 9,000 plant species in the region are endemic.
A special highlight is the walkway high up over the trees, the Boomslang. You can read more about it and locate it on the garden map here.
