Pico Humboldt is part of the Los Andes of Venezuela, in Mérida. You can go to Mérida by Car (8 hours away from Caracas) or by plane, which lasts around 45 minutes. This place is the second highest peak of the country and it’s located a few kilometers away from the highest peak in Venezuela, which is the Pico Bolivar. In fact, if the weather is good, you could see it from the Pico Humboldt.

This adventure usually takes between 4-5 days, depending of your skills.

These days are divided in three principal frames. The first one is going from the (Tabay) and arriving to the first stop, Laguna La Coromoto. This first walk it’s the hardest one, because there are a lot of nature invading the walkway, you will find some very cold rivers to cross. If you go in winter, the weather probably will make it a little bit more complicated, because the rain is going to be there, but it doesn’t matter, because it makes it more special and epic, right?

The second day is an easier day, you will make a walk from the Lake La Coromoto to the Lake Verde. In this walk, despite is easier and you won’t find any type of bothering nature, you will test your hiking skills because the way will be more vertically.

And the most beautiful day, the “Summit Day”. This day is relatively easy, but is really technically and you will be work on your endurance and resistance because of the height. You will see the last glacier in Venezuela and you will fall in love with it, it is just beautiful to see a tremendous natural art. As said before, if you go in winter, there will probably be a lot of snow everywhere.

The climb down will take you between 1-2 days, depending of how much tired you are and how much energy you have. It is easier than any of the previous days and not imposible at all to go back in just want day, but it will be a very long one.

If you are interested in watching the last glacier, you have to hurry up. The scientist say that in a few years, it’s going to disappear totally. In fact, the reduction that the glacier has suffered through the last decades, is really devastating.

Also you need to know that if you go between November and march you will probably find snow on the way up so its going to be more difficult that if you go in the rest of the year.
