If you're up for a challenge then hiking to the Cradle Mountain Summit should most definitely be on your Tassie bucketlist!
It's grade 5, 7km long and sometimes steep track (we we're using all limbs in some sections!) to the summit of this picturesque mountain so make sure you're prepared and fit before taking on this one. The views along the way of lakes and mountains are spectacular - so even if you don't choose to go right to the summit you'll still be treated to lots of incredible scenery.
Conditions in Cradle Mountain can be windy, rainy and snowy and change rapidly so be sure to check in at the Visitor Centre before you embark on this hike if you're unsure.
A few things to note before you go:
Cradle Mountain National Park is only accessible by shuttle bus from the visitor centre between the hours of 8am and 6pm (summer) or 9am and 5pm (winter). The cost of the shuttle bus is included in your national parks pass and buses leave every 15 mins. Outside of these hours you can drive to Ronny Creek (the start of the Cradle Mountain Summit walk)
Accomodation (including camping) is very limited in Cradle Mountain, particularly in peak season. Book this as far in advance as possible. If you are camping and don't get a spot in Cradle Mountain Discovery Parks then you can free camp at Lake Gairdner campsite 30km away (on wikicamps)
