This area also has a past of executions, including that of Giordano Bruno in 1600. The square then became a symbol of martyrdom of freedom of thought. Today, it is a go-to spot for tourists and locals alike, with set-ups for outdoor cafés making it a lively yet cozy corner of Rome.
