Deadvlei is a must-see destination in the Namib-Naukluft Park in Namibia. It is a white clay pan surrounded by some of the highest sand dunes in the world, known as "Big Daddy" or "Crazy Dune". The pan used to be a shallow lake which was filled with Camel Thorn trees, but with changes to the climate, drought hit and the river that fed the trees dried up, leaving tree skeletons hundreds of years old that are now black from the intense sun. This stark desert landscape has been featured in many films and is truly an incredible sight to behold. It takes you about 45 minutes from the Entrance at Sesriem to the 2x4 parking. You can either take a shuttle for N$180 from there or drive in the thick sand yourself. But don't get stuck! The drivers of the shuttles are going to help you out but are also going to charge you big!
