Located just a stone's throw away from Howe Caverns, Secret Caverns is a lesser-known (but equally as fascinating) cave system near Cobleskill NY.
Secret Caverns is a lot more off-the-beaten-path and has a much more laid-back, rustic vibe compared to Howe Caverns.
This one-mile long, naturally formed limestone cave was only discovered in the 1920s and contains awe-inspiring stalactites and stalagmites, as well as an array of calcite formations.
However, the highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the 100-foot underground waterfall, one of the largest of its kind in the northeast. 103 steps lead down to the waterfall, so make sure to wear comfortable, non-slip shoes or hiking boots.
As of June 2023, the entrance fee for adults is $18 (cash only), with discounts available for children.
Tours are booked once you get there and last about 45 minutes - 1 hour.
The cave is closed for the winter and re-opens in April. I recommend calling before you go or checking their website (linked below) for updated information.
