IT🇮🇹 Se vi chiedete cosa ci faccia una Venezia in America allora dovreste conoscere un po' della sua strana storia... L'idea di costruire una piccola Venezia in California fu dell'eclettico imprenditore Abbot Kinney agli inizi del '900. Egli fece costruire in questa zona una serie di canali artificiali proprio sul modello della Serenissima, la dotò persino di gondole e gondolieri. Con diverse attrazioni e zone ricreative quest'area divenne un vero e proprio parco divertimenti che vide negli anni '20 il suo periodo di massimo splendore. Dopo la morte del fondatore questa zona iniziò a vedere anni di continuo declino fino a diventare negli anni '50 una zona malfamata. Negli anni '60 la nuova amministrazione decise di riqualificare la zona costruendo un grande parco divertimenti sul molo e l'area diventò presto casa per i giovani della Beat generation. Nei decenni successivi Venice vide molti cambiamenti, il parco giochi sul molo presto crollò su se stesso e la zona divenne punto di incontro di gruppi di surfisti che piano piano allargarono le loro vedute anche ad un tipo di surf a terra, lo Skate. Arrivarono qui anche i bodybuilders che iniziarono ad allenarsi a Muscle Beach. Tutto contribuì a rendere Venice la zona vivace e anticonformista che conosciamo oggi. Ovviamente, è oggetto di pareri discordanti, c'è chi la ama e chi la odia. Io personalmente posso descriverla come il quartiere più vibrante dell'area di Los Angeles, il mio preferito su tutti. L'ho trovata emozionante nella sua estrema ecletticità. Una tappa qui è obbligatoria, dal momento in cui siamo arrivati non sarei più voluta andare via. Passeggiate per il boardwalk (o Ocean Front Walk), incantatevi a guardare le acrobazie dei ragazzi allo skatepark, fate una sosta a muscle beach, l'iconica palestra all'aperto vista mare, e se siete fortunati (come noi :D) potrete assistere anche ad una partita al Basketball court. Noleggiate una bici, uno skate, dei pattini a rotelle o qualunque cosa vogliate e lasciatevi rapire dall'atmosfera della caotica Venice.

EN🇬🇧 If you wonder what a Venice is doing in America then you should know a little of its strange history.... The idea of building a small Venice in California came from the eclectic entrepreneur Abbot Kinney in the early 1900s. He had a series of artificial canals built in this area just on the model of the Serenissima, he even equipped it with gondolas and gondoliers. With various attractions and recreational areas this area became a true amusement park that saw its heyday in the 1920s. After the death of the founder this area began to see years of continuous decline until in the 1950s it became a bad area. In the 1960s the new administration decided to redevelop the area by building a large amusement park on the pier, and the area soon became home to the youth of the Beat generation. In the following decades Venice saw many changes, the pier playground soon collapsed in on itself and the area became a meeting place for surfing groups who slowly expanded their views to include a type of land-based surfing, Skate. Bodybuilders also arrived here and began training at Muscle Beach. It all contributed to making Venice the vibrant, offbeat area we know today. Of course, it is the subject of differing opinions, some love it and some hate it. I personally can describe it as the most vibrant neighborhood in the Los Angeles area, my favorite of all. I found it exciting in its extreme eclecticism. A stop here is a must, from the moment we arrived I wouldn't have wanted to leave. Take a stroll along the boardwalk (or Ocean Front Walk), enchant yourself watching the boys' acrobatics at the skatepark, stop by muscle beach, the iconic outdoor gym overlooking the sea, and if you're lucky (like us :D) you can even catch a game at the Basketball court. Rent a bike, skateboard, roller skates or whatever you want and get enraptured by the atmosphere of chaotic Venice.
