Located on the west side of Los Angeles Street between Alameda Street and 3rd Street, it is one of only three official Japantowns in the United States. The area has a history dating back to the early 20th century and was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1995. It is home to a wide variety of attractions including museums, art galleries, Japanese gardens, shops and restaurants.
