The Galleria Colonna is one of Rome's oldest and largest private palaces. It has been tucked away in the city since the fourteenth century and is still owned by the Colonna Family. Here visitors will find works of art from oversized sculptures to Baroque-era paintings placed throughout the grandiose interior halls. Besides artwork, there are apartments, pavilions and secret gardens hiding among the intricately decorated walls. This is surely one of Rome’s most marvellous tourist attractions, the palace has plenty of rich and interesting history.
I recommend going to the earliest available time in the morning, so you can enjoy this stunning gallery with as few people as possible. The Great Hall is definitely my favorite spot in the gallery; I've spent hours noticing some of the beautiful details it holds. The collection throughout the rest of the gallery is very interesting, and in various rooms, there are guides who will be more than happy to share details about each room with you.
Don't forget to visit the garden, an oasis of peace in the chaos of the city. Climb above the fountain and enjoy a splendid view of Rome; the Altare della Patria seen from here is probably my favorite perspective to observe it, truly magnificent.
The Galleria Colonna is an unmissable experience for me and definitely ranks in the top list of things to do in Rome. Unfortunately, it's not always open; you can only go on Fridays and Saturdays since the Colonna family still lives here. Book tickets online to ensure you can visit this fascinating place in Rome.
