The majority of accommodations in Raja Ampat are local homestays with limited amenities. We were looking for a comfortable budget-friendly homestay close to popular sights, where it would be easy to share boat tours and have a great house reef for daily snorkeling.

After weeks of research, I found Terimakasih Homestay, which had the best reviews and an excellent location. We stayed for a week, and it was a dream. Although there’s no hot water, electricity is only available from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the bathrooms are shared, the experience was incredible. We enjoyed amazing coral reefs right in front of our bungalow, delicious daily meals, a spacious and clean room, and friendly staff. We spotted turtles, sharks, and countless fish, and met many wonderful people, making the shared tours even more fun.

Important:

  • Your stay here costs around $30 per person per night, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, water, coffee, and tea.

  • Exclusions: Pickup from Waisai Harbour, other drinks (such as beer), snorkeling equipment (available for rent), and tours. They can also help arrange dive tours that pick you up directly from the homestay.

Tips:

  • Be cautious when swimming anywhere in Raja Ampat, including at your homestay, as the currents can be extremely strong. Check if the water is calm, wear fins, test the conditions, and ensure someone keeps an eye on you.

  • Each room has a plastic box for storing food items. Use it to prevent rats from being attracted to your room at night. This is common in Raja Ampat. If you don’t have any food out, they won’t bother you.
