The Stone Bridge in North Macedonia spans an incredible 213.85 meters across the Vardar river, and connects the modern Macedonia Square on one side with the traditional Old Bazaar on the other. The bridge is historical, as some believe it was constructed during the reign of Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century after a terrible earthquake rocked the region. Others conclude that it was built during the Ottoman empire under Sultan Mehmed II's rule. The Stone Bridge has been remodeled and extended over time, but still stands strong today - its stones bound together by iron hooks, cast lead and mortar. It is often symbolized as a connection between modern and traditional. Skopje, and is now only available for pedestrian traffic. As the city’s reminder of the past, this is one charming landmark that shouldn’t be missed.
