Ait Benhaddou is a magnificent historic fortified village in southeastern Morocco that was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. It is situated on the slopes of a hill near the Ounila River and is made entirely out of rammed earth, adobe, clay bricks, and wood. The village is home to a variety of dwellings that range from modest houses to tall structures with towers, some which are decorated with geometric motifs. It has seen its fair share of famous Hollywood productions as numerous films have used it as a location, such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator and Prince of Persia. With its breathtaking architecture, intriguing history and its connection to the big screen, it's no wonder that Ait Benhaddou captures the imagination of travellers all around the world!
