The Riwaka Resurgence in the Kahurangi National Park and Motueka area of the Nelson/Tasman region is a unique outdoor experience. It allows visitors to take a 10 minute walk through native forest and clear cold water to the mysterious cave entrance from which the Riuwaka River emerges. There are excellent lookout views of the resurgence from Hawkes Lookout on Takaka Hill, and plenty of opportunities for picnicking, walking, fishing, and exploring amongst the moss-covered rocky outcrops found close by. This majestic spot is of significant cultural value to Te Atiawa and Ngati Rarua people, who consider it a place of spiritual significance. For those up for an outdoor adventure, the Riwaka Resurgence is not to be missed.
