Lagoa Rasa is a small crater lake located on São Miguel Island in the Azores, Portugal. The name “Rasa” translates to “shallow” in Portuguese, likely referring to the lake’s relatively shallow depth compared to other nearby lakes.
Situated within the Sete Cidades Massif, Lagoa Rasa is part of the Protected Landscape Area of Sete Cidades, a region renowned for its stunning volcanic landscapes and rich biodiversity. Visitors are drawn to Lagoa Rasa for its serene environment, away from more frequented tourist spots, surrounded by lush vegetation and offering picturesque views.
The most straightforward way to reach Lagoa Rasa is via Estrada das Hortênsias. Starting from this point, the walk is less than two kilometers round trip, making it an accessible option for most visitors and a quick way to enjoy the scenic beauty without a lengthy hike.
Like Lagoa de Santiago, Lagoa Rasa is, in my opinion, much more impressive when viewed from above. To fully appreciate its beauty, consider either flying a drone or visiting the nearby Miradouro da Boca do Inferno viewpoint, both of which offer unforgettable perspectives.
