The Miradouro da Lagoa de Santiago viewpoint, located within the Sete Cidades volcanic complex on São Miguel Island, offers stunning views of the secluded Lagoa de Santiago, nestled inside its own volcanic crater. This lake, formed by volcanic activity, is one of the most photographed spots in the Azores, known for its emerald-green waters that contrast beautifully with the surrounding dense forest. The viewpoint is accessible by car and includes a short walking trail that leads to the lake, making it ideal for visitors who enjoy both scenic views and easy hikes. The viewpoint is excellent for getting a close-up view of the lagoon, allowing visitors to appreciate its unique green hue and the dense forest encircling it. However, for a more expansive, panoramic view, the Miradouro Boca do Inferno provides a broader perspective of the area. Alternatively, capturing the lagoon from a drone can reveal even more of its beauty and the surrounding volcanic landscape, offering a unique aerial view of this hidden gem in the Sete Cidades region

The best time to visit is early in the morning or late afternoon, as the frequent fog around Sete Cidades tends to lift, providing clear, dramatic views. Located close to other notable viewpoints, such as the famous Vista do Rei and Cerrado das Freiras, it’s easy to create a full day of exploration in the area. These viewpoints offer panoramic perspectives of the larger twin lakes, Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde, which are steeped in local legend.
