Miradouro do Pico da Barrosa is one of the most impressive viewpoints on São Miguel Island, Azores. Located at an elevation of 947 meters, it provides panoramic views over Lagoa do Fogo, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Azores, along with both the northern and southern coastlines of the island. This spot is easy to access, as it’s located right along a regional road, and offers excellent photography opportunities due to its high elevation and sweeping views.
To make the most of your visit, it’s best to check the weather beforehand, as conditions can be unpredictable at this altitude. Dressing in warm layers is recommended, especially in the morning or late afternoon, as it can be cooler up there. Checking local webcams before heading out is also a good idea to avoid cloud cover, which can limit visibility.
The views from here are undeniably beautiful, but personally, I prefer the nearby Miradouro da Lagoa do Fogo, which offers a slightly more interesting perspective over the lake and surrounding landscapes.
Please note that access to the viewpoint during the summer season, from May to September, is open to private vehicles, including rental cars, only until 9 AM and after 7 PM. From 9 AM to 7 PM, access is only possible by tour bus or with a private guide.
