Hike
Lai da Palpuogna is a pristine lake nestled in the mountains of Bergün in southeast Switzerland. It was voted the most beautiful lake in Switzerland (though it has a lot of competition for that).
You can drive directly to the lake, so it's a nice outing for non-hikers and families with small children.
It's particularly beautiful gorgeous in the second half of October when the larch trees turn golden yellow.
For photos, I slightly prefer the side of the lake opposite of the road, but it depends on what time of day you are there.
See location on map.
This lake is just off the road that goes over the Albula pass, a nice stop if you driving between Zürich/Chur and St Moritz. If you are staying in the Bergün area, it would be a nice day trip.
The spot is not well marked and only a few parking spots along the road. So have your map open so you know when to slow down and look for a place to park.
By public transport, you can take a train to Preda. Then a about a 20 min hike up to the lake.
From the road, it only takes a couple minutes walking to reach the water. It's a popular place for photographers, who you'll see in the early morning and golden afternoon with their tripods.
If you have time, we suggest the easy walk all around the lake, about 40 mins. There are benches around the lake and a few picnic areas with fire pits.
