Wat Chaithararam, or more commonly known as Wat Chalong, is the largest and most highly revered temple in Phuket. Built in 1837, this stunning temple offers visitors a unique experience with its captivating mix of culture, history, and spirituality. Upon entering the compound one will be welcomed by a sea of shoes left behind by visitors. Moving further in one can expect to witness the majestic chedi (stupa) that shelters a fragment of Lord Buddha's bone. However, perhaps the most memorable part of Wat Chalong is the funfair that takes place there annually. Attracting thousands of locals and visitors every year, it features exciting stage performances, carnival rides, and chaotic markets all culminating with explosions of firecrackers - a symbolic way for people to express gratitude when their wishes come true. With so much to offer, Wat Chalong is certainly worth a visit for an unforgettable experience.
