Geysir is the OG hot spring that gave its name to all the geysers in the world. 🌋 Located in the Haukadalur Valley on the Golden Circle route, it’s one of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders. While the Great Geysir itself is mostly dormant these days, its lively neighbour Strokkur is very much active and erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting boiling water up to 20-30 metres into the air. 💦
Standing there, waiting for Strokkur to go off, is weirdly exciting. You know it’s coming, but it still makes you jump when it suddenly explodes! 😂 It’s one of those moments that never gets old — even if you’ve seen it a bunch of times.
The whole area is full of bubbling mud pots, steaming vents, and smaller hot springs. You can feel the geothermal energy everywhere around you. Just be careful — that water is crazy hot, and you don’t want to get too close.
If you’re doing the Golden Circle, Geysir is a must-stop. It’s one of those places where you really feel the wild, unpredictable power of Icelandic nature. And hey, how many places can you say you’ve seen a natural water explosion every few minutes?
