Ko Samui, Thailand's second largest island is known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas. There are more than 20 beaches and coves, and as many temples scattered in the villages (including the famous Big Buddha above). You will find elephant sanctuary, day and night markets to eat cheaply, massage parlors, real Thai boxing matches, excursions, not to mention a lively nightlife on Lamai or Chaweng. In term of photography, you could easily spend a month here and not see everything Samui has to offer. Let me list you my favorite spots for photography around the island.
Silver beach is my favorite beach. White sand, boulder rocks, sun beds, it's quieter than other parts of Samui, great for swimming.
Jungle Club (see above) is a nice restaurant with a great panoramic view on the whole island.
Secret Buddha Garden is a private sculpture park atop Pom Mountain, very photogenic with the jungle and old buddha sculptures.
Bophut and the Fisherman's Village packed with boutiques, night markets, and entertainment options such as Coco Tam's with daily fire shows at 9:30PM.
Wat Plai Laem is a buddhist temple complex with giant statues of Guanyin and Buddha.
Lamai Beach the second largest beach on Samui, with less crowds.
Other good photo spots include W Samui (go for a drink and enjoy the 5 stars view), The library for lunch to enjoy the view of the beach and the red pool, Seen beach club and Chi Samui for cocktails, Overlap Stone for the beautiful views.
Chaweng Beach, the biggest, most crowded, with more action, water sports, restaurants, bars, nightlife... It's the place to party with the infamous Ark bar (fire shows) and green Mango.
