This 5.5 km (3.5-mile) loop trail in Lapland is known for its stunning views of the Oulanka River and nice foliage colors in fall (Ruska period).
This moderately challenging route is called the Kanjonin Kurkkaus trail and offers a mix of forest and cliffside paths, making it a popular spot for hiking and birdwatching. Along the way, you can stop at the Kirkasvetinenlampi campfire site, the Oulanka canyon viewpoint, and the Savilampi wilderness hut. With facilities like toilets and fireplaces available, it's a great option for a day out in nature with friends or family.
If you are not up for the full hike, but just want a shorter stroll through nature, just walk to the Savilampi wilderness hut and back. Bring some sausages, chop some wood and make your own campfire in the woods. Enjoy the lake and take some pictures of the canopy bridge.
You can even spend the night in the wilderness hut. If you are planning on making a longer hike through Oulanka National Park, you can sleep there for free! It's a common thing to do for hikers in Finland and you find huts everywhere in nature, but bring your own sleeping bag for a night in the bunk beds!
