Great place to see Keas (alpine parrot) in winter!

Further information: Monkey Creek is a must-see stop for those visiting Milford Sound on a day tour. With awe-inspiring mountain scenery and pure glacial water, it's an ideal place to take in the breathtaking views of New Zealand's pristine environment. It's also a great spot to find native wildlife including the rare blue duck (whio) and the energetic alpine parrot, the kea. The creek got its name from William Henry Homer’s dog, Monkey, who was a European surveyor in the area in the 1800’s. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing drink straight out from the source, but should be sure not to get too close or feed the curious birds.
