Thorps Quarry Waterfall Track – A Hidden Gem with a Small Waterfall at the End 🌊🌿
A total of 1,000 steps to the treat at the top! 🪜 And yes, dogs are welcome too! 🐾
Clevedon Scenic Reserve is a lovely spot with old kauri trees 🌳, scenic boardwalks, plenty of shade 🌞, picnic areas, and benches to rest on. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning 360° views of the Hunua Ranges and the Hauraki Gulf 🌅. It’s a short loop walk with a few steep sections and lots of stairs, but totally worth the effort for the view and the sweat! 💪 The track is well-maintained, so you’re in for a good time.
The walkway to the summit starts at the car park and is about 1.1 km to the lookout. It’s a well-constructed track with some steps, but it can be a bit challenging, so it's best suited for those who are reasonably fit 🏃♂️💨.
You can return to the car park the same way, or if you’re feeling adventurous, keep going past the lookout for a slightly longer 1.2 km return option with more steps and scenic views.
From waterfalls.co.nz:
"The car park is fairly large, but it can fill up quickly on weekends 🚗 (you might need to park on Clevedon Rd and walk 300m to the entrance). There are all kinds of facilities here, including toilets 🚻, picnic tables, and a kids' playground 🛝.
From the car park, follow the easy path to Old Thorp’s Quarry. Cross the river via a footbridge, then at the junction, turn left (follow the ‘Old Thorp’s Quarry’ signs). At the next junction, turn right. The track follows a stream until you reach the wetlands, where there’s a wooden path and three picnic tables. The waterfall is just at the end of the clearing. It’s a permanent waterfall, but during dry seasons, there might not be much water, so it’s best to visit after some decent rain 🌧️.
The walk includes stairs, so it's not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
You can return via the same track or, if you have the energy, continue to the main walks from the junction for a bit more adventure!" 💚
