Beach

Message from New Zealand Adventures

Just below Cape Reinga on Northland's west coast, Ninety Mile Beach (also known as Te Oneroa-a-Tōhē) is a long sandy beach that appears to stretch on forever.

Ninety Mile Beach is actually 55 miles long, not 90 (go figure!). It's a popular spot for tourists and even doubles as a public highway when the main road is out of commission. This beach has seen its fair share of shipwrecks back in the day and was even used as an airstrip for airmail services in the 1930s. Plus, you can try sandboarding down the Te Paki dunes – it's like snowboarding but with sand! And hey, if you're feeling adventurous, you can drive the length of the beach like Jeremy Clarkson did on Top Gear. Just watch out for those sneaky tides!
